RentRaiser / Steering study

Steering, one step at a time.

Choose a turning strength and keep it. Each fresh tap or keypress moves one step left or right. Lifting your finger leaves your choice in place.

● Current direction: one mode, seven positions, no automatic centering.

Straight · 0%

One steering mode

You choose the angle.

Try three right taps, then one left. You’ll stay at a medium right turn. Two more left taps bring you back to straight.

Desktop: use ← / → or A / D while this comparison is focused. Holding adds no extra steps.

This illustration shows the selected angle, not a complete race. In the game, the car keeps turning at that strength until you change it; road bends, speed and upgrades still affect its path. A new race starts straight.

Same rule. Different inputs.

On mobile

Tap the on-screen arrows. One finger press is one step. Release keeps the setting; holding does not repeat.

On desktop

Press an arrow key or A / D. Each fresh press is one step. Keyboard auto-repeat is ignored. Clicking the on-screen arrows works too.

Why this direction?

Earlier ideas, kept for comparison

The tradeoff is choosing and retaining a useful angle versus having to keep holding a control. These diagrams record the alternatives we weighed; they are not selectable game modes.

Hold for full steering

Discarded
PressReleaseFull or nothing

Quick to react, but no way to keep a gentler turn. Release always straightens the steering.

Ease in while held

Discarded
Press1 secondRelease

The drawings progress smoothly, but time held chooses your angle. You cannot settle on the middle strength.

→→→←ReleaseStays here

You choose the strength directly and keep it. The cost: returning from full right to straight takes three left taps.
